Shufang Sun, PhD
Biography
During her T32 fellowship, Dr. Sun, PhD, was mentored by Dr. Larry Brown, along with secondary mentorship from Dr. Don Operario. Her work during fellowship focused on data analysis of psychosocial outcomes among young adults taking PrEP with Dr. Brown (A Multilevel Gaming Intervention for Persons on PrEP; R34MH104068; IRB approval date 7/8/2019). She has received the NCCIH K23 award focused on addressing mental health and HIV risk among men who have sex with men (K23AT011173; PI: Sun) which began on October 1, 2020. She is also MPI and contact PI on an NIMH R34 award focused on HIV prevention with transgender women (R34MH119968; MPI: Sun, Operario, Johnson). In addition, she is a co-I on several other NIH grants, including one focused on promoting mental and sexual health of MSM in China (R21TW011762-01; PI: Pachankis), another on testing among MSM in China (R01 MH123352; PI: Operario), an intervention to address adverse health impacts of early life adversities (R24AG065174; PI: Loucks), and an implementation science guided systematic review on Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (R01AT011745; PI: Loucks). Many of Dr. Sun's first-authored papers appear in many top journals in the fields of HIV and psychology, including JAMA Network Open, The Lancet HIV, Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, Current HIV/AIDS Reports, etc.
After her fellowship, Dr. Sun was appointed an Assistant Professor at Brown University School of Public Health.
