Kaitlin Sheerin, PhD
Biography
Dr. Sheerin’s research focuses on (a) family- and parenting-based psychosocial interventions for justice-involved youth with co-occurring concerns (e.g., substance use, HIV risk behaviors, trauma-related outcomes) and (b) promoting access to evidence-based behavioral healthcare for youth and families in the juvenile legal system. She is currently mentored by Drs. Kemp and Spirito. As a supplement to her T32 training, she also became a scholar through the Lifespan/Brown Criminal Justice Research Training Program on Substance Use, HIV, and Comorbidities (R25DA037190; PI: Curt Beckwith, M.D.) and successfully applied and received two pilot grants as Principal Investigator to assess linkages to behavioral health services for early justice-involved youth and their families. In addition, Dr. Sheerin also resubmitted a K23 application in March of 2023 through NIDA focused on a brief family-based treatment for cannabis use, HIV/STI risk, and delinquency among youth with early juvenile legal system involvement. She has published 15 peer-reviewed articles (4 as first author), 2 commentaries, and 2 book chapters, with 381 total citations of her work.
