April Highlander, PhD
Biography
April received her B.S. in Psychology at West Virginia University working with Dr. Cheryl McNeil and her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill working with Dr. Deborah Jones. She completed her clinical psychology internship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Western Psychiatric Hospital. She is currently mentored by Drs. Jennifer Wolff and Justin Parent. Her program of research centers on understanding mechanisms of symptom presentation and disparities in intervention outcomes for children and families experiencing emotional and behavioral dysregulation with an emphasis on the impact of socio-ecological (e.g., socioeconomic status) and family-based (e.g., parenting) factors. The goal of her research is to reduce disparities and improve care for underserved communities through identifying, implementing, and disseminating effective interventions. April enjoys taking long walks, listening to podcasts, anything Halloween related, and spending time with her friends and family.
